Hijackthis is great tool to analyze and to remove browser add-on, startup items. It’s a neat tool that you can mange running process, open host files, delete file on reboot, delete a service, and also can uninstall windows installed programs.

When you feel that you computer is infected by virus, spywares, or malwares, it’s time to run the hijackthis to check for suspicious entries in registry.

  • Download hijackthis 2.02 from here
  • Double click to install and run. You will see the main hijackthis window. Click on “Do a system scan and save a logfile”. Don’t exit the program yet…
  • When it finishes scanning, a hijackthis.log file will open itself. Select all the contents and copy (Ctrl C).
  • Now open web browser (IE or Firefox), go to this website: http://www.hijackthis.de
  • You will see a big empty text box for you to paste the hijackthis.log Ctrl V to paste the log content into the text box and click “Analyze”.
  • The site will analyze your log and show up the results. If you see the green check mark and classified as safe on the “information” column, the entry should be safe.
But if you see a red cross mark, and it says something like “this entry is nasty, this should be fixed” then you need to go back to the hijackthis program and find out the same entry, put a check mark on the small box and click “Fix checked”
  • Please be warned, if you don’t know anything about the registry entries, it’s not recommended for you to delete them, doing so will cause system malfunction.
