You have two choices , either download Tclock2 or download Resource Hacker…. Both does the job!

First you must go to the file explorer.axe located at C:Windows because this is the file which is meant to be edited for the above risk-full process of altering the name on windows XP start tab..

First of all let us make sure that the file ‘explorer.axe’ is secure……… I mean ……….. Backup it!

here are the steps for doing this process using Resource hacker:-(Since the other one is really easy)

1)Start resource hacker and open c:/windows/explorer.axe in it..

2)Now you’ll see some options like ‘bitmap,icon,menu,dialog,stringtable,accelerators’etc.The catogory we are going to use for this process is ’string table’. Expand the string table option by clicking at the star icon which will be present beside the ’string table’ option.Then sub options named in consicutive numbers will appear(20,21,22,23 etc)

3)Click on the option ‘37′(38 if you’re using the clasiic theme in xp), you’ll find a sub option 1033. Click it(why would i say that!). Then on the right side of the body of the page of resource hacker will appear some text. The text is:

STRINGTABLE

LANGUAGE LANG_ENGLISH, SUBLANG_ENGLISH_US

{

578,  “start”

579,  “there was an internal error and……(so on)

580,  “restrictions”

581,  “this operation has been canceled due to …….(so on)

590,  “hiding your inactive notification icons”

591,  “To see the hidden icons click this balloon”

}

That’s it!(sorry , this is not one among the script above)

now edit the “start” text above and type the name you prefers..!

and click the ‘compile script’ icon which will be present on the tab above the script.

now go to file and click save as (try not to click ’save’)

save the file in the name you prefers but remember to add ‘.axe’ after the name.(save the file in c:windows)

go to start -> run and type regedit:.

after ‘entering’ regedit , navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE Microsoft Windows NT CurrentVersion Winlogon

now so many options including sfcquota,shell etc will came to front

double click the shell option . then a popup menu will appear, named ‘edit string’.(shown in the figure)

below the value data: type the name of the file you edited and saved just before….click o.k

restart your machine

if the process you did has gone as planned ……….you’ll see your start button in a new name…….

Editing the Search function from the Start Button (right click) context menu may cease to function.shell modifications and ad-aware could lead to …. Windows not starting.
