If you want to install Yellow Dog Linux you’ve landed in the right spot. Yellow Dog Linux (YDL) is a CentOS based operating system developed by Fixstars. It is a free, open source Linux operating system that is built upon the RHEL/CentOS core and developed for the Power architecture family of CPUs.

Here’s how to install YDL:

Step 1

First make sure that your hardware is supported by visiting the “hardware pages” section at the Yellow Dog Linux website – www.ydl.net.

Step 2

Review the technical advisories within the advisories section at the YDL website.

Step 3

When you know that your computer is ready for the install, go to the “Downloads” section of the Yellow Dog Linux website and select one of the servers.

Step 4

Click “View Mirror” next to the appropriate mirror to look through the directories.

Step 5

Select the appropriate iso directory, go to the bottom of the list, and select the most recent version for your system.

Step 6

Save the image (Install ISO) on your local drive.

Step 7

Create a Yellow Dog Linux Install DVD by burning the image as an ISO to a DVD.

Step 8

  1. Follow the instructions in the Guide to Install.
